(15th June, 2008) Computer Lab Inauguration in Mysore Girls Hostel
A Computer Lab at the Mysore Girls Hostel was inaugurated on the 15th June 2008. As of now, the lab has 5 Pentium-3 PCs donated by the software company TCS. We thank the efforts of Sri. B.Balasubramanya our vice-president in making this possible. The inauguration was a simple function with Mr.Nagarajan (Sr Executive, Infosys), an inmate of the Boys Hostel during 1987-91, as the chief guest. The function was also attended by our president, Dr. K.R.Srikantiah, and members of the Mysore Zone. This is the fourth computer lab in our hostels. The first three are already functional at Hassan Boys, Mysore Boys and Shimoga Girls Hostels.

Important Events of 2006-07
- A Site of 100’ x 80’ costing Rs.12 lacs was purchased in Shimoga for construction of Girls’ Hostel.
- Computer Labs were started at Hassan and Mysore at the Boys Hostels.
- Scholarships of 3.75 lacs were distributed to 175 Students during the year.
- Old Age Pension of Rs.1.4 lacs was distributed to 65 old people during the year.
- Certain changes in the Accounting System were brought about to become effective from 1.4.07.
- A new Scheme called the Overseas Sankethi Support Fund (O.S.S.F) was started during the year to mobilize support from Sankethis living abroad seeking contribution of $100 per year per family.
- A new Scheme called Medical Support Fund for Old Age Home inmates (M.S.F) was started to provide Financial support towards medical treatment of the inmates of the Old Age Home.
- With the help of our Mr. V.A. Raghunath, Chief Manager, S.B.M. we were gifted with a 2 kva ups for our Mysore Boys Hostel.
- With the help of our Mr. G.N. Subbanna, Chief Manager, Canara Bank were gifted 2 Aqua Guard water filters installed at Hostels at Hassan and Mysore.
- Our president K. Nagaraj passed away on 18/6/06 after prolonged illness. He served the Sangha for 40 years. H.N. Ramakrishnaiah was elected president in his place.
- A new team of Committee Members was elected for a period of 3 years from 2007-09 . Dr. K.R.Srikantiah was elected as president.
- In the G.B. meeting in Jan. 2007 Sri. S.L. Keshava, Smt. Gangamma, H.V. Badrinath, Mala Murthy, B.N.V.. Subramanyam, K. Nagesh, H. Krishnamurthy and H.N. Ramakrishnaiah were felicitated for their contribution to the Sangha.
- In view of the substantial growth of the Sangha in the recent years it was decided to bring about certain Amendments to the existing Bye-Laws to be placed at the special G.B. in Jan. 2008.
- Computer Llab at Mysore inaugurated in July. Dr. M.N. Vijayakumar and Smt. Radha donated Rs.1.25 lacs for the Lab.
- Computer Lab at Shimoga girls' Hostel was inaugurated in October.
- Sr. H.S. Nagendra Murthy has offered to construct a 350 Sq. ft. room at Hassan Boys Hostel to house a computer Lab. This is expected to be completed by April 2008.
- Tata Consultancy Services, Bangalore have agreed to gift the sangha with 20-25 Computers for our Computer Labs. This was made possible by the efforts of our Sri. S. Balasubramanya, vice president (son of Sri.Shamanna).
- Mr. V.N. Nagaraj, a longstanding Donor and a mahaposhaka of the Sangha has offered to donate Computers to the Computer Lab at Mysore Girls Hostel.
- A 15 mins. Video Film on the Activities of the Sangha was produced mainly for the overseas sankethis and others who are not in a position to visit the Facilities. This was displayed at the july 4th function of N.A.S.A. in U.S.A.
- The work on creating a Web-Site of the Sangha was taken up and will be inaugurated at the GB meeting in January 2008.
- Dr. Sridhar, son of Mr. A.N. Rao ( grandson of our founder late Dr. B.K. Narayana Rao ) has offered to set up a new fund and contribute Rs.1 Lac every year for the Medical Treatment for the inmates of the Old Age Home.
- In appreciation of the work done by the Sangha, Mr. Suresh, Area Manager, m/s Professional Couriers has offered to deliver our Annual Reports in Bangalore (3000 nos.) free of cost every year. Mr. Suresh, in addition, made a personal contribution of Rs.1.5 Lacs to the Sangha.
- A Revised Address Book of all Sankethis is under preparation and will be released in 2008.
(20th January, 2008) 45th General Body Meeting held at KSS Boys Hostel, Mysore
- The Special GB was held to discuss the amendments to the existing bye-laws of the Sangha in view of the rapid growth of the Sangha in the last 10 years. After discussions, the GB approved all the amendments put up to the GB. The revised bye-laws of the Sangha incorporating this and two previous amendments will be put on the net shortly.
- The 45th GB started with veda ghosha by Shri Lakshminarayana Avadhani and prayer by Kum. Madhura.
- The Gen. Secretary presented the reports of 2006-07, audited accounts of 2006-07 and projections for 2007-08. After discussions these were approved by the GB.
- The following persons were felicitated in recognition of their services to the Sangha: Shri K.V. Arkanath, Prof. V.K. Doreswamy, Shri B.K.S. Swamy, Dr. S. Srinivasamurthy and Shri. Rajaramamurthy (Sankethi Sangama)
- The web-site of the sangha was inaugurated by our president Dr. K.R. Srikantiah. The site was developed with the help of his son Dr. K.S. Ramakrishna and Smt. Radha Vijayakumar. Site is named www.kowshika-sankethi-sangha.org
- Shri Mathoor Krishnamurthy and Shri K.S. Chandrasekhar suggested taking up project of college and hospitals in important cities to benefit the sankethi community and offered 2.5 lakhs and 5 lakhs respectively if this was implemented.
- Donations received/promised on that day included Rs.1 lakh from M.N. Anantha and Smt. M.R. Manorama, Shri. Parashuram Rs.10,000/-, Y.N.G. Krishnaiah Rs.10,000, H. Subbaraya – Rs.10,000, Jayant – Rs.5000, Prasanna Keshava – 2,500 and V.K. Doreswamy – Rs.6,000/-
- President Dr. K.R. Srikantiah thanked the members for their support and requested youngsters to come forward to work for the sangha. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri P.M. Subbaraya.
On July 1st, the activities of the Kowshika Sankethi Sangha took a quantum leap with the inauguration of the second computer lab at our Boys' Hostel in Mysore. The first lab at the Boys' Hostel in Hassan was inagurated on the 11th of March.
The function started with Veda Ghosha by Sri. Lakshminarayana Avadhani and a prayer by Kum. Madhura Aithal. Mr. P.M. Subbaraya welcomed the gathering. Mr. C.K. Manjunath introduced the chief guests. After this, the Chief Guests – Mr. V.A. Raghunath, Chief Manager, SBM, Bangalore and Mr. K.V. Arkanath, our past President, inaugurated the lab by lighting the lamp and offering prayer and switching on the computers.
The guests were later felicitated with a shawl, garland and a fruit basket . The chief guests advised the students to make the best use of the facilities created for them to further their career prospects. Mr. Anantha.M.N. thanked all people involved in setting up the lab. KSS President, Dr. K.R. Srikantiah stressed the importance of computers in the present times and make use of the computers to the maximum extent. Mr. V.N. Nagaraja who could not attend the function as a chief guest conveyed his blessings to the function. The programme was compered by Shri B.S. Vishwanath.
Our M.C. member Dr.M.N.Vijayakumar & Smt.Radha offered a donation of Rs 1.25 Lacs to name the lab after his father Late Mr M.R.Nanjundiah. Of the several people who worked on this project special mention must be made of Mr. P.M. Subbaraya and Mr. Venumadhav who worked tirelessly from inception to completion of the lab.
Details of the lab in Mysore: The labs will have 5 independent machines with Intel Celeron processors, 256MB RAM, 40/80GB HDD, CD ROM, 15" CRT/TFT monitors with keyboard, mouse, and speakers.
(11th March 2007) Computer Lab at Hassan Boys' Hostel
11th March 2007 will be a Red Letter Day in the history of the Kowshika Sankethi Sangha. It was the day the student family at our Hassan hostels were presented with the opportunity to enter the computer age through the inaguration of a computer lab at the Boy’s Hostel.
The function began in a traditional manner with Veda Ghosha by Chi. Abhishek and Abhiram, prayer by Kum. Ramya and Srilakshmi, and welcome speech by Sri.S.V.Mruthyunjaya. This was followed by introduction of the chief guests by Sri.C.K.Manjunath and a brief report on the lab by Sri. M.N.Anantha.
After this, the chief guests, Smt and Sri .B.N.S.Murthy (parents of Mr.Phaneesh Murthy who is a Mahaposhaka of the boys' and girls' hostels) and Smt and Sri. M.A.Shanthamurthy (who have given the computers and furniture at a very discounted price) inaugurated the lab by lighting the lamp and cutting the tape. A “WELCOME“ sign greeted them as they switched on the computers. Sri. M.S.Raviprakash who will head the unit outlined the plan of action for running the lab.
The guests were then felicitated with a shawl, garland and a fruit basket. Mr M.A.Shanthamurthy adviced the students to make the best use of the lab for their advancement. Our president Dr.K.R.Srikantiah stressed the importance of computers in the present times and told the students to give it the same importance as their degree. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks bySri.M.N. Nagraj.
The function was compered by Sri.M.N.Panduranga. Of the several people who worked on this project, special mention must be made of Sri.M.S.Venkatsubbaiah and Sri.M.K.Sunderesh who worked tirelessly for nearly 2 months from inception until completion of the lab.
